Te Aupōuri Iwi

Te Aupōuri is a prominent Far North iwi (tribe) centered in the far north of New Zealand, whose activities span environmental kaitiakitanga, social housing, and large-scale commercial developments including fisheries and renewable energy. Originally based in the Te Hiku o te Ika region, the iwi has significantly expanded its influence through its post-settlement governance entity, Te Rūnanga Nui o Te Aupōuri, which manages a diverse portfolio of ancestral lands and sustainable enterprises. The iwi is widely recognized for its award-winning conservation work and its leadership in regional economic development, recently securing top honors at the Northland Environmental Awards.

Where we come in

Datanest served as the digital foundation for the Puna Wai Ora drought resilience project, an iwi-led initiative providing critical water infrastructure to whānau across the Far North. By deploying Gather and Maps modules, Datanest enabled field teams to conduct manual site assessments with real-time mobile data collection and automated technical scopes of work. This streamlined the installation of hundreds of water tanks by providing Te Rūnanga Nui o Te Aupōuri with a centralized, transparent platform for tracking progress. The partnership successfully bridged the gap between complex environmental data and rapid community delivery, ensuring water security for the region’s most vulnerable households.

Datanest was the backbone of the Puna Wai Ora Te Hiku Drought Relief Project. Over 1,000 applications and 600+ sites were seamlessly managed with an easy-to-use system for field staff, automated job sheets, mapping, and project tracking.
